LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This may be a very difficult and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel relaxed within a traditional treatment center amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which have to be resolved in order to get well. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the event their loved ones disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and is also a good example of something which could be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a wholesome life without any drugs and alcohol.
