LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This can be a very difficult and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to numb these feelings. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel safe in a traditional rehabilitation program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and treatment counselors issues which must be resolved so that they can get well. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family, in the event that their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug abuse, which is a good example of an issue that could be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted in their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
