Criminal justice client rehabs can be considered as a significantly better option than prison time or heavy fines for those who have been convicted of any sort of drug or alcohol related crime. As an example, a person who has been found guilty of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol may qualify to get rehabilitation services because of their problem as an alternative to serving time in jail. The judge could even order the individual receive treatment, either alone or in addition to other consequences. New offenders in particular in many cases are given the ability to select a criminal justice client rehab as an alternative to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they benefit from it if it is an option. The idea behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is much more effective and efficient to invest time and effort into rehab than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been done to observe how effective this approach is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. The signs and indicators appear to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients who take part in rehab have better chance of remaining out of the judicial system after rehab.
