Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address significant drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis every day or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with just a brief history of drug abuse which is usually a very small amount of clients. For an individual with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities which provide treatment on a long-term basis will be the more effective treatment option.
