TRICARE is medical health insurance that is offered to folks in the military of the United States. Substance abuse within the military is more common than one would assume, and the necessity to provide treatment to these individuals is a vital priority. TRICARE covers numerous rehabilitation services to cope with drug and alcohol dependence including detoxification services, as well as rehab in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient settings. Individuals with TRICARE will of course be asked to obtain a prior approval before taking part in any type of treatment service, that may be arranged using a regional TRICARE liaison. If an inpatient facility will be the preferred rehabilitation option, TRICARE will cover a 3 week period or one inpatient stay in that program per benefit period which is every 365 days. There are certain limits about how much time a TRICARE member can stay within an inpatient facility that accepts TRICARE, and there is typically a 30-45 day window which is covered. TRICARE also covers family counselling which is often very useful, as it could help include loved ones in the healing and recovery process. No member of the military should fight this battle alone, and there are skilled rehabilitation counselors ready to help today.
