Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide treatment to deal with both addiction and mental health issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for people involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as those that have mental health issues frequently self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some sort of temporary relief from their disorder. Inside a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help people through a thorough rehabilitation plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as addressing substance abuse concerns. Offering a secure environment is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain free from distraction from things that could compromise their program and development. Treatment counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life including negative relationships or any other things that need to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and abstinen t whenever they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which helps them develop more efficient coping methods so they are able to better deal with life circumstances better if they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of returning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior option.
