Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off drug abuse, or risky sexual conduct as a result of substance abuse may have caused the person to contract the disease. People who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing condition before their drug abuse issue, often require rehabilitation services tailored in order to meet their specific demands and challenges. Many of these problems are physical in nature, due to the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS very rarely look after themselves and take the appropriate medications they need to maintain their own health. Therefore, they arrive to rehabilitation in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while also dealing with other critical concerns. Aside from the obvious necessity to provide medical solutions whilst in rehabilitation, people who have HIV/AIDS should also deal with more deeply rooted problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Often, individuals have conditions within their lives that are strictly environmental which may have caused them to turn to alcohol or drugs, including oppressive circumstances within their lives or negative relationships. These are the issues which rehab counselors will target as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
