Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which deliver treatment to handle both addiction and mental health concerns simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for folks involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as those that have mental health issues often medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of short-term relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors can help people using a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all directed at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health while addressing alcohol and drug abuse problems. Offering a safe environment is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain undistracted from circumstances which could cut across their program and development. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally healthy and sober t once they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab that helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are able to better handle life circumstances better once they depart dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to alcohol and drugs as a possible solution.
