LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is often a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Somebody who is LGBT might not feel relaxed inside a traditional rehabilitation program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which need to be resolved to enable them to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This circumstance is an extremely frequent trigger for drug abuse, and is an example of a thing that could be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life free of drugs and alcohol.
