Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in situations where standard treatment settings have fallen short, including dealing with situations in a women's life which are unique and painful. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also become involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a result of addiction problems than males as a result. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug rehab programs which provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a 1st step. After this step, professionals help women target both basic and gender specific concerns who have brought on their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and several programs which provide treatment services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
