Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in situations where traditional rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations in a women's life that happen to be unique and painful. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other significant issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women could also become involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a result of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Much like coed programs, drug and alcohol rehab programs which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both standard and gender-specific issues who have brought about their drug or alcohol use.
