Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be very useful in situations where standard rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, including dealing with situations in a women's life that are distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or another significant issues which can be specific to women. Research shows that women also can become involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness due to addiction issues than males as a result. Due to obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug rehabilitation centers that offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender-specific problems which may have brought about their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, plus some programs that provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for her young children.
