Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the treatment client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment you might normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab center. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient possibility, it isn't for everybody. Those that choose an outpatient rehab will generally attend meetings and take part in counseling and treatment services part-time every day or a few days a week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is really a really small amount of clients. For someone with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that provide rehab over a long-term basis will probably be the more effective treatment choice.
