Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, such as coping with situations within a women's life that are unique and distressing. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other really serious issues which are particular to women. Research has shown that women may also get embroiled in drug use more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness because of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs that provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender-specific problems which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also enjoy the beneficial support from other female peers, and several programs that offer treatment services to women provide client beds for their children.
