A group home for a person who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a place which provides continual support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Rather than sending those who are being affected by drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar facility, a group home will help provide an acceptable environment to help sustain stability in their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach 24/7. People who reside within a group home could be involved in rehabilitation services while in residence, or could possibly be taking measures to get their life set up outside of the group home in order to at some time live independently away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, but it is a viable short-term option for many who are attempting to get their lives back together.
