LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially depraved. This may be a very difficult and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug use to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel relaxed in a conventional rehab center amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be handled in order to get better. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab can help clients mend relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug use, and it is a good example of something which could be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and create confidence to be able to lead a healthy life free from drugs and alcohol.
