Hearing impaired individuals generally have a greater risk of drug use issues because of their impairment, and rehab services have to be at hand which cater to their circumstances. People who are hearing impaired can seem to be alone, lack motivation, and goalless because of their impairment. Many hearing impaired individuals then opt to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and have a temporary escape from the psychological and emotional challenges that accompany having this handicap in life. Firstly, detecting a drug and alcohol abuse problem among the hearing impaired is often a challenge, because these individuals may make an attempt to hide their issue as a result of social stigmas attached to drug use. Having said that, drug treatment counselors who provide rehab to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehabilitation services are of course a must, as are treatment services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy gives a venue for important peer support in order that rehabilitation clients can know they are not alone, and that there's hope to resolve their challenge with drugs and alcohol. Individual counseling services could be more tailored for everybody so that their unique challenges can be treated in treatment.
