A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled adolescents, but additionally, there are group homes for those with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. As opposed to sending people who are being affected by drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar facility, a group home may help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips around the clock. Residents in the group home might be taking part in rehab services while in residence, or could possibly be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home to enable them to at some point live on their own outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it is a viable short term option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
