LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially depraved. This may be a very hard and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug use to alleviate this pain. Someone who is LGBT may not feel comfortable inside a traditional rehab program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which need to be resolved so that they can get well. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab can help clients mend relationships with their family members, in the event their family disagree with their sexual choice as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for drug use, which is an illustration of something which could be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
