LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially depraved. This is often a very hard and painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug use to alleviate this pain. Somebody that is LGBT may not feel relaxed within a traditional rehab center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which need to be handled in order to get well. Rehab counselors within a LGBT rehab can help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for abusing drugs, and is a good example of something can be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
