A group home for anyone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but in addition there are group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending people who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar facility, a group home will help offer an acceptable environment to help individuals sustain stability within their lives and still have counsel and assistance at their fingertips 24/7. People who reside in the group home may be getting involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or may be taking measures to get their life setup outside of the group home in order to at some point live on their own outside the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a sensible temporary option for many who are trying to get their lives back together again.
