Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug rehab center. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services part-time every day or a few days each week. This is helpful for many who have just completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a very small amount of clients. For a person with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which provide treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more effective rehabilitation choice.
