A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continuous support and assistance for individuals in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but there's also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As opposed to sending those who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or another similar facility, a group home can help provide an acceptable environment to help maintain stability inside their lives and also have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. People who reside inside a group home could be taking part in rehab services while in residence, or could be taking actions to get their life set up outside the group home in order to at some point live independently away from the group home. As an example, a troubled youth who has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent answer, but it's a practical short-term option for individuals who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
