Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where traditional rehabilitation settings have fallen short, such as coping with situations in the women's life which can be unique and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or another significant issues which can be specific to women. Research has shown that women also can become involved in substance abuse more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness as a result of drug abuse issues than males because of this. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Comparable to coed facilities, drug and alcohol treatment programs that provide rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both common and gender-specific concerns which may have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the constructive support from their female peers, and some centers which offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
