Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide rehabilitation to deal with both mental health and addiction issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for folks involved in substance abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to to feel some kind of short-term relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help individuals through a comprehensive treatment plan all targeted at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while also addressing alcohol and drug abuse issues. Providing a safe and secure environment is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain undistracted from circumstances that may compromise their program and progress. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative people in their lives or other things that have to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and abstinen t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment that helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are able to better handle life circumstances better after they depart dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to alcohol and drugs as a possible solution.
