Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to take part in rehab services with the same commitment you might usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab center. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address substantial substance abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. People who decide on an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis daily or a few days each week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed an even more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with just a short history of drug use which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs which offer rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehab alternative.
