Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the treatment client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. People that do choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services part-time each day or several days each week. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is usually a really small amount of clients. For a person with more serious drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which provide rehab on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous treatment choice.
