Self pay is sometimes the only option for those who need rehabilitation inside a drug and alcohol treatment program for substance abuse but don't have any medical insurance. It isn't uncommon for someone hooked on alcohol or drugs not to have private health insurance, as it can be hard to have a drug or alcohol habit going while also sustaining work.
