Hearing impaired individuals generally have a greater chance of substance abuse issues because of the impairment, and rehab services have to be available to them which cater to their needs. Those who are hearing impaired can seem to be alone, unmotivated, and be without goals because of the impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and experience a temporary release from the emotional and psychological challenges that accompany having this handicap in daily life. In the first place, detecting an alcohol and drug abuse problem among the hearing impaired is often a challenge, because these individuals may make an attempt to hide their issue because of social stigmas attached to drug use. However, drug rehab counselors who offer rehab to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehab services are definitely a necessity, as are treatment services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy provides a forum for important peer support in order that rehab clients can know that they're not on their own, and that there's hope to handle their challenge with alcohol and drugs. Individual counseling services can be more tailor-made for everybody to ensure that their own problems can be treated in rehabilitation.
