Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which deliver rehab to handle both mental health and addiction concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for individuals involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as those that have mental health disorders frequently self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some form of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help people using a detailed rehabilitation plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as addressing drug abuse problems. Providing a safe setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel at ease and remain free from distraction from things that could compromise their treatment plan and progress. Rehab counselors will work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which need to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally stable and abstinen t whenever they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which will help them develop more efficient coping mechanisms so that they are better able to handle life circumstances more effectively when they depart dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to drugs as a possible answer.
