Criminal justice client rehabs are available as being a significantly better option than time in jail or significant fines for individuals who have already been convicted of any type of alcohol or drug related crime. For example, anyone who has been in prison for driving while impaired of drugs or alcohol may qualify for rehabilitation services for their problem as an alternative to serving time in prison. The judge may even order that the individual receive rehab, either alone or in addition to other sentencing. First time offenders in particular will often be given the opportunity to pick a criminal justice client rehab instead of other sentencing, and it is well-advised that they make the most of it if it is an option. The concept behind criminal justice client rehabs is it is far more efficient and effective to invest time and energy into rehabilitation than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been done to see how effective this process is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. All indicators seem to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients who do experience treatment have better potential for remaining out of the system after rehab.
