Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where traditional rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations inside a women's life that are unique and painful. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or any other really serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has revealed that women can also become involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness due to dependency issues than males consequently. Due to responsibilities in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Just like coed facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that provide rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender specific concerns which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the positive support from other female peers, and several programs that provide rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for her children.
