Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which provide treatment to handle both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved in substance abuse, as people who have mental health issues often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some form of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment professionals can help individuals using a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all geared towards restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as addressing alcohol and drug abuse issues. Providing a safe and secure setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that could compromise their program and development. Rehab counselors will work to spot environmental issues in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things that have to be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally stable and sober t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which will help them develop more effective coping methods so that they are better able to handle life circumstances better once they depart dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior solution.
