A group home for anyone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. As opposed to sending those who are struggling with substance abuse or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar facility, a group home may help offer an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. People who reside inside a group home may be getting involved in rehab services while in residence, or could be taking actions to get their life setup outside the group home so that they can at one point live on their own outside the group home. For instance, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or acquire work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent option, but it's a viable short term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together.
