Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehab to handle both mental health and addiction concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved in drug abuse, as those that have mental health issues often medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of temporary relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help men and women using a detailed rehab plan all directed at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health whilst dealing with alcohol and drug abuse issues. Providing a safe and secure environment is key to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain undistracted from circumstances which could compromise their program and advancement. Rehabilitation counselors will work to identify environmental issues in the client's life such as negative relationships or any other things that have to be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally healthy and abstinen t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which will help them develop far better coping mechanisms so they are able to better handle life circumstances well after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to drugs and alcohol as a possible solution.
