A group home for a person who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continuous support and help for folks in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but there's also group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. Rather than sending people who are being affected by substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home might help offer an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and still have counsel and support within reach 24/7. Residents inside a group home might be involved in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or may be taking measures to get their life set up outside of the group home to enable them to at some point live independently away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire work. A group home is not really a long-term or permanent answer, yet it's a practical temporary option for those who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
