A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and help for individuals in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there's also group homes for individuals with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending those who are being affected by drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home can help provide an appropriate environment to help maintain stability within their lives and also have counsel and assistance within reach 24/7. Residents within a group home could possibly be taking part in rehabilitation services whilst in residence, or could be taking steps to get their life set up outside of the group home so that they can at some time live on their own outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can try to get their GED or obtain employment. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent solution, but it is a practical short term option for many who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
