Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the treatment client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those who decide on an outpatient rehab will generally attend meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis each day or several days each week. This is often helpful for those who have just completed an even more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with only a brief history of substance abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment centers that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous rehabilitation alternative.
