Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has proven very helpful in situations where standard treatment facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations inside a women's life which can be distinctive and painful. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or another serious issues which are specific to women. Research shows that women also can get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of addiction issues than males as a result. Due to obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone seeking out and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, rehab services for women are created to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug rehab programs which offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender specific problems which may have brought on their substance abuse.
