Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services without the commitment you might ordinarily have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab program. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve substantial drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services on a part-time basis each day or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is really a very small percentage of clients. For someone with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment centers which offer rehab over a long-term basis will be the more beneficial rehabilitation option.
