Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve substantial substance abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient possibility, it isn't for everybody. People who decide on an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services part-time every day or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for many who have just completed a much more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a brief history of drug use which is usually a very small number of clients. For a person with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs that provide rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more advantageous rehabilitation alternative.
