Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehab to handle both mental health and addiction concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely prevalent circumstance for people involved in substance abuse, as those that have mental health disorders often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some kind of short-term respite from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help people using a comprehensive rehab plan all geared towards restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while also addressing alcohol and drug abuse problems. Providing a safe and secure environment is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things that may compromise their treatment plan and development. Rehab counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or any other things that should be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally stable and abstinen t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which will help them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are better able to handle life situations better when they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior solution.
