Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be very helpful in situations where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in a women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has revealed that women could also get involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness due to drug abuse issues than males as a result. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug rehabilitation programs that offer rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both common and gender specific concerns which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also utilize the positive support from their female peers, and several centers which offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for her kids.
