Many hearing impaired individuals then decide to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and have a temporary release from the psychological and emotional problems that come with possessing this handicap in life. To start with, detecting a drug and alcohol abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, as these individuals may make an attempt to hide their issue due to social stigmas attached to drug use. However, drug treatment counselors who offer treatment to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges these clients face. ASL rehabilitation services are definitely a necessity, as are rehabilitation services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy gives a forum for important peer interactions so that rehab clients can know they are not on their own, and that there's hope to resolve their problem with drugs and alcohol. Individual counseling services may be more tailored for each individual to ensure their own personal challenges can be treated in rehab.
