Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the treatment client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment you might ordinarily have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation center. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that choose an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis each day or several days each week. This is helpful for individuals who have recently completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, and for someone with only a short history of drug use which is really a very small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers that provide treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial rehab alternative.
