A group home for a person who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a place which provides continual support and help for those in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for people with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending people who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home can help provide an acceptable environment to help sustain stability within their lives and also have counsel and support within reach around the clock. Residents in the group home could be getting involved in treatment services while in residence, or may be taking actions to get their life set up outside the group home in order to at some time live independently outside of the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who has been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can try to get their GED or acquire work. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent answer, but it is a practical short term option for many who are trying to get their lives back together again.
