Individuals who want to maintain a lot of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment center. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to resolve significant drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services part-time on a daily basis or several days weekly. This is often helpful for those who have recently completed a more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab centers that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will be the more effective rehab option.
