Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug or alcohol use, or dangerous sexual behavior due to drug abuse may have caused the person to contract the illness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either on account of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing problem prior to their substance abuse issue, often require rehab services tailor-made to fulfill their particular demands and challenges. Some problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS very rarely care for themselves and take the appropriate medications they need to preserve their own health. As a result, they arrive to treatment in very poor health and this will have to be handled as a priority whilst addressing other important issues. Besides the obvious requirement to provide medical services during treatment, individuals with HIV/AIDS will also need to tackle deeper problems which prompted their drug or alcohol use.
