Criminal justice client rehabs can be considered as being a considerably better option than prison time or significant fines for individuals who have been convicted of any kind of drug or alcohol related crime. For instance, a person who has been in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be eligible to obtain treatment services for their problem as opposed to serving time in jail. The judge may even order the individual receive rehab, either alone or together with other sentencing. First-time offenders specifically will often be given the opportunity choose a criminal justice client rehab as opposed to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended that they reap the benefits of it if it is an option. The theory behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is way more effective and efficient to invest time and effort into treatment than punishment. Much research has been carried out to find out how effective this method is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehab. The signs and indicators appear to be quite positive, and criminal justice clients who experience rehabilitation have a much better chance of remaining out of the system after rehab.
