Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehab client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facility. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an opportune possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically show up at meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services part-time every day or a few days a week. This can be very helpful for many who have recently completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is really a very small percentage of clients. For someone with more serious addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities which provide rehab on a long-term basis will be the more advantageous rehabilitation option.
